During the forging process of OCr17Ni4Cu4Nb steels, cracks usually appear on the forging surface, resulting in the low percentage of qualified forgings.The inspection and analysis on typical defects by OM and SEM show that the segregation of Nb and Cu alloying elements of raw materials is the main cause for the cracking behavior during the forging process.Based on these reasons, measures such as controlling the quality of raw materials by low-magnification OM observation on the original microstructure are regarded as an effective way to lower the possibility of cracks during the forging process.
