Abstract

A new high entropy alloy (HEA) which is composed of Al,Mg,Zn,Cu,Ti with the ratio of 35:18:35:6:6 was prepared by vacuum furnace in high purity argon atmosphere. The results show that the microstructure of the as-cast HEA was composed mainly of a hexagonal closed packing (HCP) phase and a face centered cubic phase (FCC1) and another face centered cubic phase (FCC2) with small amount. Mg and Ti would not coexistence in the same phase while large amounts of Al and a small amount of Zn formed a divorced eutectic organization in the intercrystalline.Though the prepared Al7Mg3.8Cu1.2Zn7Ti1.2 HEA exhibited a great brittleness during the compression mechanical testing, its compressive fracture strength can reach 572.89MPA.
